Seek first to understand then to be understood….know how each media operates, their different objectives, who’s who in charge at the assignment desks, what is the story focus e.g. GE14 and what is the role of each media towards its key audience etc
Timing and space are key in whether your story gets published or aired.
Know how each section of the media works and its requirements e.g. Metro is all about Klang Valley related news
To be a H.I.T. with the press, be HONEST with your story, ensure the INTEGRITY of your story by verifying that the source is TRUSTWORTHY!
NO amount of Spin doctoring will save you or your client’s reputation once the Truth comes out.
So understand that even though newspaper companies a business but they themselves are governed by journalistic ethics. This ensures that the news is credible.
